Canada Applying for Residency

Just looking for as much info as I can get regarding applying for residency for Canada. I'm going out on my 1st visa in a few weeks and all going well hope to apply for residency at some point. Could someone who knows about applying lay out the steps I need to follow? Is there a list of jobs that they favour when people apply? Do I need to have lived in Canada for a set period of time before applying for residency?

The gist of it: You can now apply for residency if you have one year's experience in a required field (noc 0, a, b).

Theoretically, you can come over on a WHV for one year, get a job, get a second one (as long as you meet the requirements e.g. 18month thing they had in place this year), then apply for residency once youve got your first year's work done
