Is it now common practice for companies not to respond to applicants even after they've attended interviews?

Three interviews I've attended and they didn't even send a PFO letter, this really gives a bad impression do they not realise this!

One company I even had a second interview with - followed up and was told we'll be in touch
The other company -followed up and was told the same thing!

Heard nothing from both of these. One is from 6 weeks ago, and the other two months ago

Third company just ignored me! Is there a place to name and shame..

    Is this happening to others?

    Yes

Pity they don't realise that of all the money they are spending on marketing and brand development that this a black hole in the families, friends & OHs of those they treat so badly.

Remember; treat people well onntheir way up; so they will treat you well on your way down.

You could be their boss in the future.. Or running their company ... : )

Maybe they are holding an appointment ; budgets pending; decision maker on holidays/ busy etc
Maybe they are waiting for references to come innfor candidate A & doing checks & want to keep you " in reserve" in the meantime just in case...

Regardless it's extremely unprofessional & extremely rude & poor form.

Don't be too disheartened. It's a reflection on THEM, rather than you

I think its really bad form. Fair enough when short listing applicants there can be lots of rejected applicants so thats fine if you dont hear anything back.

But if someone has gone to the effort of coming out to a company and sitting an interview they should at least send an email or letter telling them they didnt get the position.

HR people have a lot of free time... yet they can't be bothered sending a quick e-mail to say you haven't gotten the job. They can even use a generic template. Takes about 10 seconds per e-mail.

    Pretty ignorant IMO!

In general I agree, particularly where an interview has taken place and the application was direct to the company.

But when companies get CVs through agencies, the company replies to those agencies not to the candidates themselves. So often it is the Job agency that couldn't be bothered rather than the interviewing company.

I didn't use an agency I never use them, I find them a waste of time! I applied directly to the companies involved so there was no third party!

May I ask what Industry / Sector or what type / level of role ?

Without being facetious, welcome to the modern economy.

And if you go around naming and shaming, it's only you who'll suffer IMO.

What kind of job is it? In my line of work, contact details and current situation are more of an ongoing dialogue basis with our competitors.

And whoever said HR have time on their hands, not now they don't, most of the work is assigned to interns and job bridge, with the squeeze being out on more senior people to move on.

Ps hang on in there, keep plugging away, similar situation myself 2 years ago, I know your pain.

Don't let it beat you, keep your energy for the interviews ;)

I agree, it's bad form not to give you a response when you've taken the time to attend for interview.

I wouldn't bother trying to "name and shame", though - won't do you any good in the long run. I guess it's just a case that you'll know to avoid them in future!!

If I were you I'd be a little more open-minded about this, if you're seriously interested in finding a new job.

Some are absolutely useless - but there are decent ones out there, too.

At the moment, for the specific job I'm looking for, there are currently 285 jobs advertised on irishjobs.ie in the Dublin area. Of these, 266 are through agencies and only 19 are advertised directly by companies.

Now I'm under no illusion that all of those 266 jobs (or even the majority of them) are "real" - however, I'd be seriously limiting my options by ignoring all jobs through agencies.

As it is, I'm registered with five agencies. I've gotten quite a few interviews with companies, for roles I'm very interested in, through three of these five agencies. I've also gotten some good CV and interview advice from these three. None of these roles are advertised at all by the companies in question, either on the job sites or on their own websites.

Obviously a lot depends on the industry you're working in, though.
