Hi all. Need some advice please. I am Replacing 2nd car at the moment and as a musician with dogs I may get a van.

Thinking of buying 2009 Fiat Doblo 1.3 Multijet Commercial. It is taxed and DOE until Nov 2012.

Can I tax and NCT it privately, as it is Band A

When taxing a commercial vehicle privately its calculated at the rates based on the CC not CO2.

So, no you cannot NCT and tax it at €160/year

All privately taxed commercials are CC based? Even post 08 privately taxed commercials? I never knew that.

do you mind putting up a link as there is a van on donedeal as you described which is said to have around 100k km on it but had a relation that looked at it at the weekend and had nearly 200k km. when my relation questioned the seller he just said "o i meant to change that it was a mistake on the add". it clearly was a deliberate attempt to attract people to the van. i think that one was in longford just in case that was the one you were going to look at. just so you are not wasting your time. other than that one they are a great van good engine in them.

So will I pay €288 commercial, or up to 1300cc rate which is €310 or €333 (new budget). The Co2 rate is 160 p.a.

DOE every year even if the car is brand new?

    What do I do?

i think thats the van but the seller corrected the millage on the ad just ask him straight out on the phone what millage is on it in kilometers as if it is the van there is 195k km on it which is not 105k miles. so just check with the owner before viewing it as i could have the wrong van. its just a relation looked at a 2009 diablo in that area for that money at the weekend and said the millage was way higher than stated in the ad thats what put him off the van. but as i said i could have the wrong van so if the owner confirms the mileage in the ad is correct before you look at it. but other than that looks like a good van at a good price.

If you're taxed private does that mean y pay car rate at toll bridges?

No I think you have to still pay the commerical rate but not sure it's an interesting one

If you tax the van commercially you will only be legally aloud to drive in the course of business/trade.

If you tax it privately you can legally drive at anytime, regardless a DOE is due annually from the cars first birthday.

I don't know about the toll bridges

No. Driving up and down the M3 in my van I was charged the commercial rate despite the private tax. €2.10 as opposed to whatever the rate for cars is :rolleyes

Edit: Same on the way to Clonakenny. M7 toll charged me €3.50, again I don't know what the car rate is

Thanks, i was looking at last years figure. The tax is the same price either way. The Co2 based tax would be 160 if it was allowed.

Thanks. It has 2 months commercial tax left on it, would I have to go and tax it privately from the day I buy it.
