Old Sky card still activated!

I connected my old sky+ Box (was in my shed for 2 years) to my daughters bedroom, by connecting an extra lead to the dish LNB, just to receive any FTA channels. I am paying Sky for a HD package at the moment which excludes Movies and Sports. My daughter surprised me by stating she can receive basically the same channels in her bedroom as what we are paying for in our HD package. On further inspection the old card is still in the sky + box and is obviously still activated! Happy days except I am slightly worried I may get an extra bill from Sky. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is Sky1 available on the old box?

It is available...only because the old Sky card is still activeated. If I remove the card...then Sky 1 will go off. I feel Sky should have de-activated the old card when we upgraded to Sky HD...but they didn't do this...and as I say it was about 2 years ago when we last upgraded.

Check your bill, they may have been charging you extra all along.

Sky have no way of knowing whether the old Sky box is still in your shed or if it has been in use for the last two years unless you have connected it to a phone line.

If by 'upgraded' you mean signed up as a new customer to get the HD box etc.. then you might have not cancelled the old account.
Check your bank statement as you are most probably still paying for the old 'still active' account.
There have been cases, i know of 2 personally, that customers cancelled with sky, but the cards remained active for a long time afterwards.

Thanks for the advice but I'm just paying for the package I'm on now. I was just worried that even though I reconnected the old Sky+ box for the FTA channels, that somehow Sky will send me an extra bill as the old card is working.

Well pop the card out then. If you want to try get the channels for free then you have to be prepared for them charging you later on.

    That won't make any difference.
Sky have no way of knowing if the card is being used or not, as long as the box is never connected to a phone line.

If you use it for a while, it will ..... eventually ..... be deactivated.

If you use it infrequently, and remove it when you are not using it (e.g. overnight or holidays) it will last longer.
