Hey guys, just thinking to make a list of what we need for college. The titles a bit of a mouthful :L I'm heading down on friday and don't really know what to bring. Hoping some older/wiser readers will post helpful lists and also advise us on what to leave at home and what to take with us! :D

    So- here we go;

    Clothes ( a lot )
    Raingear
    Jackets
    Towels
    Shampoo, toothpaste, toiletries
    Sleep shtuff- duvet,covers,pillows,pj's
Medication- inhalers, allergy pills, paracetemol/strepsils etc.
    Sports gear
Stationery- pens, pencils, markers, books, copies etc.
Technology- phone, laptop, iPod, chargers and the likes

My mind is a bit blank atm... what else? :L

But seriously. I dunno where you're staying but does your place have a telly? We don't so I'm bringing one up. And we're bringing up a wii, ps2 and ps3 aswell, cause we're cool like that.

What about books to read that aren't school books? I won't be home much so I'm trying to think of all the stuff I won't need to purchase much, but still need. i.e spare printer ink and stuff.

Again, you probably don't need this stuff if you're in student accommodation, but I'm also bringing up pots and pans and a heap of cutlery.

Yeah i'm in student accommodation so I doubt there'll be a tv in the rooms :L We have a spare one at home so I might bring that up :L I also had planned on buying a N64 for the memories but... meh... need to keep my money.

Will we need to bring much stationery? As in, would the college shop be less expensive to buy things in?

Erm. I can't see it being less expensive. But like how many pens and copies are you actually gonna get through?

I'm bringing a big pack of pens, a refill pad for each subject (4x300 pages), box of pencils, stapler, tape, tip-ex, pack of white paper, a printer, colouring pencils and a few half emtpy refill pads I have left over from last year that should be handy for giving up assignments?

Cause you're in Maths I'd say bring a whole pad of graph paper too.

The SU Shop is actually pretty cheap and you'll get all your stationary needs there.

You're over doing it a bit there! Generally all you need is a refill pad and a few pens (black, blue and red). Throw that in with your laptop if you have one and you're sorted.

The most organised people I know in college had a seperate folder at home for each subject, then took out the pages of notes from each lecture, stapled and marked the Week # and Lecture clearly on the top and put in the folder. You'll be getting other handouts and assignments which you can then add to the folder too at the right week, then you'll have that subject's material all together and can have in your locker come study week.

You'll not need the printer. I did that myself in first/second year and it doesn't work out any cheaper over time with ink and paper costs. Printing in college is 8c/page or 12c double-sided. It's very fast, the quality is good and you can send wirelessly to the printers. IT students get an allocation of free printing.

Also Dunnes, Penny's and the likes do cheap student packs of sheets, duvet and pillows so might be handier to just pick that up when you're here.

I had my own printer last year and only put a €20 refill cartridge in at the start of the year which lasted me till May. Managed to print EVERY lecture.
The big packs of tesco value printer paper is only around €4.

IMO, it saved me lots of money.

Dropbox ( www.dropbox.com ), its invaluable for college.

Think of it as a big USB stick for all your documents but on the internet, available on all PCs/Smartphones whenever you need it.

Also, you can set up public folders with your classmates/friends. In my masters last year I had one for the whole class where we put up all supplementary readings, exam papers, lecture slides (and even books!) for everyone to have all the time. Plus when it came to exam time, we had a folder for each subject and chapter where we uploaded our notes, saved us WEEKS of note taking.

    Oh... and its free!

Yu get far more space with skydrive and if you already have a hotmail/windows live account then you already have it. It used to give 25 gigs for free and still does for those who requested it, it gives 7 gigs free now to anyone, it can be kinda handy seeing as excel, powerpoint and word are all integrated into to use for free online. It also has some cool class assignment functions whereby you can see exactly what changes every person has made to a document to which you give access.

They seem to have forgotten to include "sink" in their list of kitchen items to bring.

Is that real or a piss-take? You'd want some size of a house to fit all that crap!

Well ya, just make note of whatever applies to you and what you need for where you're gonna be living, be it student accommodation or private renting or whatever.
