    BANDIT

    THE WRITER:

Brian O'Riordan is devising Bandit, which tells the story of one man's struggle with solitude, guilt and acceptance, alongside his intensive training for his own first marathon (Dublin City Marathon) which he is aiming to run in under 3 hours all in aid of Pieta House: The Centre for Prevention of Self Harm and Suicide. He has done extensive research into the kinds of extreme training and conditioning marathon runners can go through (including Cryo-therapy and Chi Running) and he has also talked to many runners about their thoughts, struggles and triumphs in an attempt to write an accurate and honest piece of theatre.

Brian is a graduate of Bull Alley Theatre School and works as an actor in theatre, film and tv. Bandit is his first attempt at writing and devising a one man play and he was lucky enough to be one of 5 successful applicants to the Show in a Bag initiative. Through Show in a Bag he has gotten the opportunity to work with talented theatre makers such as Gavin Kostick and Bryan Burroughs.

    THE SHOW:

    Bandit [ban-dit]
    noun, plural bandits
    An outlaw or highway man
One who takes unfair advantage of others
One who runs a race without a number

A man stands unnoticed at the start line, he readies himself for his first ever marathon. He has returned home after 6 years of being declared a 'missing person'. He has come back to face his past. No Bandit has ever won the Dublin City Marathon – he plans to tackle the 26.2 miles and be the first.

Written (in association with Gavin Kostick) & performed by Brian O'Riordan and directed by Bryan Burroughs, Bandit will run in Bewleys Cafe Theatre Sept 12th-21st.
Presented by ABSOLUT Fringe, Fishamble: The New Play Theatre Company and Irish Theatre Institute.

Brian's a runner as well as a professional actor and has been running seriously for 2 years. He was training for last years Dublin marathon but shortly before he got injured and so couldn't run. 2012 will be his first marathon! The play culminates both his passions so one fed the other
