Central locking problem 1999 Toyota Avensis

Having a bit of a problem diagnosing a cental locking issue with a 1999 Toyota Avensis.
Central locking will not work from either button in the door or the remote key.
Stripped off the doorcard, removed the door lock unit from the drivers door and bench tested with a 12 V supply. Sure enough the solenoid is actuating the lever.
When the interior door lock button is pressed, I can hear the relay clicking, however there is no voltage at the connector terminals for the door mechanism.
There is continuity in the circuit that powers the drivers door lock.
I suspected the relay. However it is not a conventional 4/5 pin unit, but a module called a Relay Integration unit. Switched it out with a replacment and still no joy.
I have checked the usual fuses, the DOME fuse and the 30 A fuse associated with the door circuits. The interior lamps are fine.
I would have thought that if one of the other mechaniss were faulty, the doors would at least attempt to lock/unlock but then unlock. Would the door pillar switches affect the operation of the central lcoking.
    Any ideas?

i have similar problem, but all doors locks from button inside, bot not from lock in drivers door.
Door lock system working fine, when connected directly to 12 v.
