Hey guys. I've decided to get a Dornbluth 99.1 as my next watch and I'm trying to decide on the colour scheme to go with.

I've found(stolen) some pictures of the two colour schemes I was thinking of.

Blue appliqué numerals with blue hands.

Silver appliqué numerals and blue hands. (Picture is huge so pointing to the link instead.)

What one do you think looks best?

I'm leaning towards the blue hands and silver numerals but finding it hard to decide as the blue and blue looks great aswell.

It's a big rush to decide, I only have about 7 months to finalize the design. :)

Nice - well done - not sure i could do the 7 month wait, but it will be special

First one for me - Blue and Blue i think looks better

Yeah I think Blue and Blue might be a better choice alright. That combination looks great in all the photo's I've seen. I might get tired of the silver/blue combo after a while.

I'm hoping to order it in the next week and if so it will be delivered in May 2013 so 8 months roughly. So maybe 6/7 months to finalize this part of design.

I'd heard of them first when Bedlam mentioned them in a thread somewhere and have been tempted ever since by them.

IWC Portuguese with blue hands is what I was looking at before this but think I'll go with this first.

Very pleasant decision to have to make...I lean towards blue on blue myself also.

Personally not a fan of blue on a watch at all, but the blue and blue does look good.

    Best of luck with it

just when you think you know everything up pops this cracker...never heard of them but going to investigate more

    For me Blue on Blue...

    Lovely

Where did you buy it ?

Judging by the lengthy wait time, the watch is coming from the watchmakers themselves: http://www.dornblueth.com/flash.php

Wanted to go for a used one myself, especially after hearing the extraordinary after-sales care and the more than affordable price for a service, which is under €200!

PS. If anybody is interested in the pricelist, I got it from them so I could pass it along, just PM me.

I'd go blue and blue. The one thing that I have yet to see one company get right for me is the single additional second dial. They all seem to be too big. I cannot understand why they don't just put a proper seconds hand.

Yeah those pics are the best I've seen of this model. The blue looks amazing on it. The Portuguese is nearly double the price of this so going with this instead. I really do love the Portuguese line and may get one down the line.

just in case people are not aware, by internet rules this officially gives me first dibs should MrSparkle tire of it

edit: oh and I'll echo everyone else and say blue hands and numbers

I'm not sure I'll tire of it but if I do I'll let you know. Have to abide by internet rules.:)

Yes you buy directly from them. I believe in most cases you will be dealing with Dick Dornbluth himself who will be working on your watch. They offer a lot of customisation options so you are getting the exact watch you want.

If you fill out a Catalogue Request on their site they will send it to you in a few days with a pricelist.

They do a model with a smaller sub dial if that's of any interest.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Blue on blue it is then. I'll get it ordered soon and will put up some pics in 9 months when I get it.

How does payment work? Full amount up front or deposit and balance when watch is ready?

25% up front and then the balance paid the week before shipping. Nice way of doing it so that you can spread the cost a bit.

You can have it delivered or collect from the workshop if you want.

Looking forward to seeing the pics - sometime next year! :)

are all their watches hand wound?

did you go for any more customisations? i've seen pics where people have had the number 40 done in a different colour for a birthday for example...

I actually got them to send me a pricelist last week as well. I think their movements look incredible. Not as expensive a starting price as I had thought -but the choosing a rose gold case really takes things up a notch.

Good luck with the watch I agree with the blue on blue too, I think I would like to see that silver on white in the flesh before considering buying as photos could trick you into thinking there is more contrast than there really is, I reckon.

The price list that I got from them a couple months ago doesn't even list the rose gold case price, not that it appeals to me anyway. As for the price of the other ones, I'd say they're pretty expensive regarding the movement as is nothing more than a modified Unitas AFAIK, but you get a customized watch to the desired specifications and at the same time being produced only a handful of them, can be considered limited editions.

The one they sent me is only last week says it''s valid until June 2012. I had asked specifically for a few of the models in rose gold, depending on the model it's a €5,000-€6,000 premium.

I would also imagine that the 7 month wait ensure that the resale value holds reasonably well, but you don't see too many of them for sale

It just looks like they do hand wound movements. http://www.dornblueth.com/flash.php?p=movements&s=movement_994

Nope I'm not going to go for any customisations I think.

Yeah the starting price for the 99.0 and 99.1 are not as high as I thought they were going to be, unless you want rose gold, that really jacks up the price alright.

Yep I think you might be right about that. That's the problem with buying watches like this online.

I considered that, the fact it's a modified Unitas movement but I think the level of finishing makes up for the price and the fact it's an independent watchmaker makes it worth the money.
