Converting rear drums on a mk1 focus

Is it possible to do the above and convert the rear drum to discs on a mk1 focus? The current drums could do with being replaced but wouldn't mind upgrading the rear brakes if possible.

my ST170 has rear discs so it must be possible. If you use ST170 parts you may have to upgrade the front brakes too. Hard part is fuinding a scrap ST170 I guess, plenty in the UK on ebay

Do you know if even the 04 or 05 mk1 focus has rear disc brakes are or they all drums i would have thought the 05 would of had rear discs?

    To convert you'll probably need.
    • Rear hubs complete with discs, calipers etc.
    • Handbrake Cable
    • Brake pipes
    • Master cylinder

Also, you might have trouble with ABS (if fitted) and insurnance as it's a modification to the vehicle. You might have to swap the complete rear trailing arms etc if the hubs can't be removed from your suspension.

You do know that most of the braking is done by the front brakes? IIRC, between 10% and 25% of the braking is done by the rear wheels. As the Focus is front heavy, I'd imgaine that approx 10% to 15% of the braking is done by the rear. As a result, I'd focus (no pun intended) on upgrading the front brakes instead.

They all have drums, except the st's and rs models. The conversion is possible but most people I know of only done it for aesthetics, as there is very little braking done at the rear.

cheers for the replies lads think i'll knock that idea on the head and just replace the hubs, thought it might of been a straight forward conversion but not so!
