Most cars are reliable if properly maintained.

    Japanese(maybe not nissan)/Korean especially so

Got to be the Honda Civic.

Gotta agree on the Civic. 140k km's on our 06 Civic and very happy with it. No plans to change or upgrade for the foreseable future either

As another option, I'd have a look at a Ford Focus. 130k miles on mine and it flies the NCT every time. Couldn't recommend it enough.

Civic 1.4 is legend, older 1996 one and newer one.

Wife has a Jan '05 Focus II 1.4, currently 250k kms on it and going perfect. Buy a looked after one and you should do ok. Everything, apart from the tyres of course, is still original on ours.

astra 1.4, have a mk4 one with 145,000 miles on it, and its running like a clock, only bad thing have to bring it to the NCT EVERY year, I know they're bad for the head gaskets but doesnt every car have a fault

80k should be nothing to a modern engine. I'd expect nothing to be wrong with it

the thread title is most reliable 1.4L car...and whilst you've had a good experience of yours which is good to hear, on the whole giving my numerous/countless exchanges with them, I'd not rate them as the most reliable of 1.4L cars.

Would go with the civic have several that I look after and never need anything other than service items. The corolla s are good but have have some trouble with some of the engine eletrics

Mazda 3 1.4 litre would be pretty bomb proof also

I had a 1.3 Lancer and for a few years, was doing 600km a week and never had a single problem with it, you'll pick one up for peanuts too as they don't seem to hold their value very well. It was a bit underpowered but fine to drive if you are not bothered about that.
