Anyone willing to come up with any reasonable ideas as to what the now defunct Galway airport should be used for .
We dont want to see something like the docks taking place again.

what about an aircraft museum, do the AC still have that king air for sale .if it runs we could do live taxi runs up and down the runway without actually taking off ,
I m sure lots of people would be willing to pay for the experience ,

Also if they are getting rid of the MATS aircraft maybe they could be exhibits also ,
Must be loads of stuff about,

I'd like to see it used as place where you can go and get a plane to Dublin, London, Newcastle and elsewhere.

Just like the good old days. :(

Could it be used for parachute jumps? I hear of people having to go to Waterford and Kilkenny to do charity jumps.

They should charge a fiver and let the boy racers of galway use the runway in the evenings at the weekend.
Enniskillen airport do this and its a great way to get cash flow, helps the town council control the boy racer problem and the boy racers can actually go and do their thing on the runway and not bother the rest of society as much!

It should be kept opened as a general aviation and charter airport for now.
ALSO, there are plenty of aviation enthusiasts who know alot better than any kid with a college degree in business managment and let them run the airport for free.
I would actually manage the airport for the price of the dole and I gaurentee I would do a better feck!ng job than the overpaid boys there now!
Plus, I would make the galway flying club more of a young people scene. To many ancient freemasons in that club who scare most people away

just to see what other fellow sim pilots do when there in the middle of a flight or at a crucial point in landing or running into bad weather.
Ive often gotten the sudden urge to go pee when the going gets tough but in order to be as realistic as possible i try to hang on as best i can ,
    sometimes its ok if your on autopilot on a long haul you can go and have a quick one and get back ;
Not that easy though when uve got a fully laden a320 on a short run , passengers an timetables come first.
Ive seen the plastic bag type things , does anyone use them or would they leak or smell if left around your pc.

I don't see how that is in any way relevant to the thread......

Have the admins not said they are cracking down on this "who's who, attack the poster" stuff?

Usually, but this guy is so far off the wall he's either a serious piss taker or in need of medical help. Banned as recently as last week.

Well we all hate those who post spurious pisstakes, but they only do it because there is a plentiful supply of replies to it. Ignore the posts and keep in around the topic is the best policy. Lots of threads here get bogged down in the mud of trollism and lose their way....

This thread may have merit for discussion on the future of Galway and GA in general(I know that's a double statement) in any case.

If you started the thread I'd engage in a discussion. This guy, no. His previous attempt at a Galway Airport thread under his Davehopper name related to how the Irish Air Corps were moving there..it's over on the military forum. Worth a read for the comedy value. Take a read of the live fire at Gormo thread also. Search all posts by Fougachap and Davehopper.

Regarding threads losing their way due unwanted input, may I politely refer you to the Visa Application discussion!:D

I have a landyacht and would love to have a blast down the runway. I've had many flights delayed due to high winds in Galway so definitely worth a go.

In the UK they race landyacht every week on old runways, much quicker than on our usual beaches

Well it's irrelevant as the admins have struck with the big hammer of ban!!

If I had a CPL and a few quid would love to have some kind of a light aircraft to give aerial tours of the Galway coast, Connemara etc. to tourists. If marketed correctly I would think there would be a relatively substantial market for tours like that.

I'll have to come up with another way of spending my millions so :(

Also, I have always thought the likes of Galway would be a good spot to run an FTO out of. I done a lot of my PPL training down in Cork which was great, although an airport with less commercial activity would be beneficial for training, in so far as keeping holding times down etc.
