Would be grateful for any help.

This slug is in my compost heap. About 5-6cms. I tried a couple of websites but am none the wiser. In the Northwest.

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like a leopard slug, Limax maximus.

Much appreciated. Someone else who looked at agrees with you.

Interesting slugs, they predate on other slugs and snails.

Do you mean they kill and eat other slugs?
    I never knew that?

I have noticed that after I kill slugs in the garden(to protect my crop) and leave their bodies there that within a short space of time(on a damp evening) they attract other slugs to feed on their bodies?

It looks to me that the favorite food of slugs/snails is the bodies of other dead slugs/snails.

BTW it's a great way to cull your slug population by using dead slugs as bait

I saw a slug in my garden measuring 11 cm. Is that unusual?

    Here's that beastie:

    https://webmailbox100.eircom.net/service/home/~/?auth=co&id=135303&part=2.2

It was 11 cm. in length.

I spotted on the outside of a patio door, so I was able to take an accurate measurement through the glass using a tape measure.
