Have to upgrade to a larger car due to family size. We have a Toyota Corolla 3 door hatchback that wont fit 3 car seats in the rear. Ideally we would like to get an MPV but the tax is mad on them so we have the option of using my sisters car. It's been liying at home out of use for about 2 years and just about takes 3 car seats in the rear. I've offered to give her €1000 for the year as we'll be out of the country next year as I'll be doing something like an Erasmus year.

What I'd like to find out is do I have to fill out the botification of change of ownership even though technically the car isn't ours. We're only renting it as such for the year.

If you are planning to insure it on your name, then most likely you will have to change to owenrship.

Depends on how you plan to insure it. If you're thinking of getting insurance on the vehicle in your own name then you will need to take ownership of it.

If plan on driving the vehicle on your own policy under the "driving other cars" extension then in order to use the car for any practical purposes (ie parking in public) then she will need to take out third party policy on it.

Just change it over to your name to save hardship with insurance etc if your sister aggres to it. just put it back in her name when you are finished with it
