Hi I'm going to be in Bangkok in mid October for 3 nights with the missus.

Can anyone recommend a pretty decent hotel for just chilling out in?

That looks nice. Why don't book in advance? I don't think the missus would be comfortable with that...

I am thinking our budget is around €100 a night so don't know what that will get us.

I just did a quick check the Grande is about 160 a night prepaid, while the Four Points is about 60 a night prepaid.

Advantage of SPG is that it is one of the biggest hotel chains in the world, the Grande has a great breakfast, I love the pool very jungle tropical (not great of you sun worship)

Disadvantage it's a large american chain hotel.

Just checked the 160 rate includes, breakfast, Evening cocktails (2 hours free drink each evening) and butler service.

Also not sure if it's only for SPG member (worth becoming one) but for a small fee they do unlimited laundry, handy if your mid holiday.

Paying €160/night for a hotel in Thailand is insane, you can get great quality hotels for €30 - €35/night, 5 star for €50-€60.

The Dawin Hotel off Sukhumvit is a nice snazzy hotel, although located near a redlight district of which Bangkok has several.

The President Palace Hotel is another nice hotel also off Sukhumvit a few blocks over from the Dawin. Both hotels would meet the need for luxury without needing to spend €160/night!

Like any hotel rate depends on season and demand, I have stayed in the Sheraton Grande, and to be honest would stay no where else in Bangkok. I have never paid more than €100 a night because I book well in advance, and I always get upgraded to a suite which is 750sqf. Add in free drinking, breakfast and unlimited laundry for 1500 star points it's a good deal.

I also gave a link to a sister hotel the new Sheraton Four Points which in October is showing rates of €60 which is pretty good for the class of hotel.

I agree you can get far cheaper hotels in Bangkok, but it's not always about price, it's about what you like.

BTW I'm not insane I just happen to like the hotel.

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is fabulous-Breakfast is out of this world.
Also enjoyed Wagyu Beef there for about 35 Euro . It really is a lovely hotel.
Was flying out at midnight so obviously had checked out earlier in the day but they have changing facilities /jacuzzi / sauna on one of the floors which is very handy.

The Grande's breakfast is with out doubt the best I have ever had in a hotel. The pool is also amazing, so tranquil right in the heart of Bangkok. I really think the place is worth the money.

We've booked Rambuttri Village Inn, costing 35 for two of us for 2 nights. Great value! Came recommended from a friend. Looks good and reviews so far have been positive.

I stayed in the Fortuna about ten years ago and it was pretty good, it had an outdoor pool as well which surprised me.

It's on Sukhumvit soi five, close to the sky train.

We got it for about £20 a night as a deal from BA.

    PH4T,

I would recommend the Amari Watergate. I have stayed in a few of the Amari Hotels and found the standard to be exceptional.

There are plenty reviews on tripadvisor if you would like to see what other travellers are saying about it.

The key in Bangkok is to be close (I mean within 300 metres) of a skytrain or subway station, otherwise you'll either be drenched with sweat walking to one or stuck in a taxi in the worst traffic imaginable. For the type of money you're talking about you should get a very nice suite; even €50-60 is possible if you shop around and ask for discounts and free upgrades etc.

I've stayed in both these places before and I'd recommend them:

The Lebua is a great hotel which might come in under your budget. Loads of bars and restaurants to hang round in and the breakfast has to be seen to be believed! Spring for the Executive rooms and you have free food and drink in the evenings.

And its right beside the Skytrain!

Would anyone have a more recent recommendation for a hotel in Bangkok.
We are looking for the following:
    Close to skytrain
30-40euro max per room per night
A short taxi ride distance to Khoa San Rd would be great
And finally, a pool would be a nice added bonus!

    Does anywhere like this exist?

    Thanks!

Hi TravelTrek. We ended up going to the icheck inn hotel which is on silom. It was perfect for our stay however it had no pool and was about 20 min taxi khoa san road (80 baht).

Silom was a perfect area for us. It was nicely removed from the madness of khoa san but close enough to plenty of madness when we wanted it. There is a night market nearby and the skytrain just 5 mins down the road which is the perfect way to travel between Bangkoks amazing shopping centres.
