Saw this offer and think it sounds good since I probably need an eye test anyway, yonks since I last went.

Free glasses with eye test in brief
Have an eye test – costs €30
Get €29 pair of glasses, free
Or have a €29 discount off any other range or offer
    During September only

Is there anyone else doing similar deals? Am in Galway.
And what's the catch? €30 for a test and glasses seems very cheap.
Is there additional costs I'm forgetting?

Sounds fantastic. I'm wondering if you get free frames worth €29, but you pay an extra
    80/90 for lenses?

What’s more, when you book an eye test with us during September, we’ll give you a pair of glasses from our €29 range, including PENTAX single vision lenses with scratch-resistant treatment, free.
Seems that 30 is the only cost. I've booked an appointment for this week so will report back after.

I got an eye test done this morning with specsavers, went in, told i could be seen straight away, pretest with a person nd then the optician saw me. I have previously been prescribed glasses 2 years ago from my fathers cousin who is an optician (he didn't charge me for test nd I got glasses 2xglasses for 50€ - basically not in his interest to prescribe me glasses) Anyway I told them this this morning, that I didn't have the glasses because I lost the last pair so I'd need to be retested. So €30 eye test and you get €29 off glasses. The optician who was very reserved and unfriendly told me I had 20/20 vision, nd I was surprised nd reiterated I've had glasses before. She got quiet snotty and told me she would send the details onto my GP if I wanted. Swindled..definitely in their interest to tell you you have good vision becos if u know you need new glasses and u see this offer nd u think u'l get €29 off a pair but u won't if they are adamant you've 20/20..jeeez

The optician in Specsavers is an employee on a salary, doesn't care if you buy glasses or not. You're cousin profits from telling people they need them. There's a different spin on it for you!

I don't know I'm a little bit dumbfounded. Surely if they are getting people in and getting the €30 off them without loosing it on the glasses? I totally see what you mean but he made no profit telling me I needed glasses and the reason I went to him in the first place is because I felt I needed glasses and I do, I'm short sighted nd squinty without them. I feel as though I should go back but I'm a bit put off by the snot on the opticians face?

You must have come down in the last shower. The specsavers opticians get bonuses for getting glasses sold and if a optician does over a certain number of test a day they also get a bonus. So stop your pub related clap trap and get your facts right before posting rubbish

How do you know that? You don't even know what specsavers he went to.
I have friends who are specsavers directors and most do not have bonuses for the opticians anymore and if a store did that would be down to the descretion of that particular director.

I assume the free pair of glasses are the medical card /very old fashioned glasses and they would hope you will go for a more expensive pair and get the €29 off.
If you do the latter they will make money so why would they say you don't need them if you do?
btw if the cheaper glasses are the medical card glasses the cost price can be as small as €1.50 so its not exactly a big hit for specsavers if you go for the cheaper ones.

Wow, just wow. That's some pretty aggressive bile right there. Deep breath, think about some puppies and relax. I would point out however that I have no vested interest in this(based on the ad in your sig, I guess you do), just personal experience with Specsavers, who I have found to be honest and great value over the years.

I wouldn't mind getting the perspective of a specsavers employee? Maybe the optician I met today was having the Monday blues I don't know. I am getting my eyes tested tomorrow with a different optician and if he says I've 20/20 all well and good but if not il be going to specsavers for my money back.

Em no u get €29 off the glasses (the price of ur eye test basically) I'm not medical card or anything. It could be just down to the one girl I encountered today :-/

I ended up getting new lenses fitted and not bother with new frames even though they were free (I prefer the frames I have over the ones available).
This did not get paid by the offer so had to shell out separately.
