Not 100% on them but usually around 100k miles to 120k miles.
If its any way at all noisey best to get it checked timing belts on opels have to be done 36k miles to 40k miles where as most other makes your talking about at least an extra 20 k miles.

    No prob glad to help.

There 90k miles on mine but no noise or anything out of it. I'll be getting it checked over by a mechanic in a couple of weeks so he'll check it then I was just curious.

    Should be fine.

Have you ever heard a 1ltr corsa rattle thats the sort of sound to listen for.

You should be fine for another good while so.

There is no set interval for the chain on this engine but they can give trouble so if your unsure of the history of the car of the the chain is noisy it would be worth replacing for peace of mind.

No noise and considering there is only 90k miles I wouldn't really bother changing it until there is a noise. As you said there is no set interval chain. Van was well minded seemed to be no expense spared when it came to maintance got a mechanic to check it over already so the chain is grand for the moment anyway. Thanks for the advice.

I think it has same fiat engine as my Doblo van, brilliant little engine! Yes chain and mine has 225 thousand klms and still going well ! But I do oil & filter every 10 K

It has a fiat Opel engine it's a good little engine. The Astra has a 6 speed gearbox which is great for cruising down the motorway. Was unsure about buying it with a 1.3 engine but glad I did.

The only reason the chain should need to be done is if the car isn't serviced at the appropriate intervals.

There aren't any known issues with timing chains on those engines to the best of my knowledge.

The chain gives trouble in this engine only when the oil and filters are not changed at the correct intervals. Other than that, they are good.

Van has full service history always serviced on time and now that I have it it will be serviced generously well before the interval as I feel 30k km is just too long and that's what Opel recommend? So I will do it about every 20k km. just serviced it yesterday so it's running great. Thanks for all the advice.

If you keep that up, then you won't have to worry about the chain ever letting you down. And you're absolutely right, more than 20,000 km on the same oil is looney so fair play to you for maintaining your car properly:)!
