Bereavement Grants

Hi
My Boyfriends father recently passed away. He did not leave a will. I only work one day a week and he (my boyfriend) does not work as he spent the last year caring for his father without carers allowance.We are trying to find where we can get bereavement grants. I know you can get 850 from the Department of Social Protection but also we were told you can apply to the County Council for a Bereavement Grant. Is this true and does anybody have any information on this. Any HELP is much appreciated, Thanks.

There is also a once-off exceptional needs payment under Supplementary Welfare Allowance to cover funeral expenses which your boyfriend may be entitled to.
