Tweaking my AUG

I bought an AUG last year that has given me considerable grief. I sat down today with a box of parts in an attempt to put it right, sort my compression issues and get a reasonable output from it.

    Round 1:
    Installed the following,
    Element 7mm AEG Bearings
    Element Multi Steel Teeth Piston
Element Vortex Bearing Spring Guide for Ver. 3
LONEX Anti-Reversal Latch (mine was donated to another aeg)
    LONEX Shim Set ( 0.1mm and 0.2mm )
LONEX Enhanced Cylinder Set for AUG AEG Lvl4(good value for cylinder, piston head, cylinder head and air nozzle)
M90 spring supplied by ASG when I complained about guns with their branding being drilled.

Shimmed the gears, PITA, fiddled with the pinion alignment screw on the motor, fitted all other parts, assembled and tested. Output 389 fps . I have a Lonex M90, Guarder M85 and KA M80 springs to work my way through. So, back to the bench with this gear box. Round two to follow.

    Round 2:
LONEX M90SP AEG Tune-Up Spring fitted, result 317 - 320 fps. Good result, consistent over 150 or so BBs with XCortech Chrono. Could leave it there, not sure how it would test with other chronos. Might be wary of taking it to a skirmish with such a tight tolerance. What do other people run with? Will test later in the week with the Guarder SP85.

    Hi grayson,

What brand is the AUG and what version (A1,A2, etc...) do you own? What was the problem at the start with it? When you said it was around 317-320, I'm guessing that's with .20?

All checks carried out with 0.2g 6mm BB.

I ranted about this before in other threads. Its a ASG JG AUG A1, on my first attempt to skirmish it chrono'd hot. I complained to the retailer, they checked it out and on their chrono it was bang on 328fps. They commented on the accuracy of other cheaper chronos and said they were happy with the AUG.

They did offer a spring change but at a fee. I decided later that week that a spring change was a good plan to allow me some tolerance, took it apart and found a drilled cylinder filled with metal shavings, shredded o-rings and fractured spring guide. The retailer said that as it was a cheap chinese clone drilling was acceptable, I had voided my warranty by disassembling it myself and as a good will gesture supplied me with a new spring guide and o-rings. I re assembled it but had compression issues and wildly varying output. I could not get a good seal.

Contacted ASG as the distributor, to complain about the condition of the AUG and they sent me a ported cylinder, M90 spring, cylinder head and nozzle, all covered in grease so I'm guessing pulled from another gun. This is the same M90 that gave me 389fps in Round 1.Fitted all, still had compression probs and varying output so ordered parts once money was available.

All is good now though. The Guarder SP85 might be a better option depending on how it tests. 320fps might be a little close to the limit if I'm visiting different sites with different chronos. I'm just looking forward to using my own AEG rather than rentals. Would be interested to know what others consider a decent output from their AEGs.

I'd say you should be fine sitting at 320. different chronos do sometimes give different readings but I'd imagine 320 would be fine, anything over that and you're really pushing it though in case of weather and chrono make etc.

T4RGET, was thinking 310-315 rather than going above 320.

If you want it a little lower, then open it up again and snip 1 coil off of the spring :)

315 may be safer but I honestly don't see a problem with 320, then again you never know what could happen when you game, if you're still concerned either use a lower power spring or like Kev said, snip a coil.
