    Hello,
Does anyone know how to get FTA on a Sky+ box with the viewing card removed? Is it even possible?

Try rebooting with card removed or even card upside down but the newer boxes apparently all revert the Irish EPG.

Only other way is get a freeview card.

AFAIK The FTV card can only be obtained by UK residents who have a valid TV licence.

I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £25. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400.

This card won't let you record.
And I doubt you get HD.
It remains the property of SKY - so dodgy using it here ?

Almost every channel is FTA anyway.

"Just £25" - for £3 more you could buy a brand new cheap and nasty Bush Freesat receiver from Argos.co.uk which also doesn't record or do HD, but probably uses a lot less electricity especially in standby.

If you want to record you've to track down an old UK SKY+ box which matching card that managed to avoid the kill signal sent when the subscription was cancelled (ie card not powered for over three months). Even then there is no guarantee that they might not resend kill signals in the future.
