Outstanding VAT bill

Ok I need some advice please, I was audited in 2010 and admitted a vat liability of €4500

My business went bust in 2008 and any spare money I had went on paying small local creditors.

I initially wanted revenue to take a standing order from my bank account but they said they could only do this with people who were still trading. So they gave me 2years to settle the debt, which I was grateful for.

However, while I have been employed since 2008, I am on a low wage, and after all household bills etc are paid I have little or no money to live on. I'm married with 3 kids, a mortgage, car to run and a few loans I'm keeping up with.

My question is, are there any options open to me, such as an attachment on my wage? Where maybe a small amount is deducted over a 5year period? I already pay around €55 per week on tax, so it's not a case that I don't want to pay, I simply can't.

    Become a TD?

Failing that, just ring up the revenue and explain the situation.

I know that's what I need to do, I just have developed a bad habit of burying my head in the sand lately.

When I was in business nothing was too much to deal with, and I always dealt with any problems head on, but since things went belly up I just don't have the confidence to confront the issue

You MUST talk to the Revenue about it, otherwise things may get a lot worse. Your only chance of lenient treatment is to talk to them. Burying head in the sand will lead to the worst possible outcome.

You wont find any answers here,

talk to Revenue or someone may make representations on your behalf on a hardship case.

Thread closed. Not much can do to help unfortunately.
