RTW Flights

Looking for some advice on round the world flights from people who've done this kind of thing before.

First of all, where's the best place to look for flights? I've only been looking at sites like sayit.ie, and haven't done any proper pricing of my itinerary. I'm looking to go travelling from February to July of next year. I want to take in SE Asia for around 6-7 weeks, maybe a short stay in Hong Kong, up to Japan for 3 weeks, then down to Oz for another 3 weeks before getting to NZ and eventually flying home from there.

From what I've read it seems you're better off flying in and out of the same airport. As in I'd be flying straight to Bangkok, and given my limited time in SE Asia I'm probably only going to take in Thailand and Vietnam. It would be easier to fly into Bangkok, make my way across to Vietnam and then fly from Saigon to Hong Kong, but is that kind of thing possible with round the world flights? The same goes for Japan, I'd want to fly into Tokyo and then work my way south. Will I have to go back up to Tokyo in order to leave the country?

Also 've no idea of what I should be paying for this kind of intinerary, so would like some kind of ballpark figure from people who've done something similar before.

    Go talk to Trailfinders.

AFAIK you can't just decide where you want to go RTW tickets only go to a few ports. But the best thing to do would be to get a cheap RTW and then buy flights in Asia with Air Asia.

Yeah I had a look on trailfinders and they quoted me €3k for an itinerary that was nowhere near what I asked for. Might just book the flights individually myself. Think it would come to about €3k anyway.

Just buy either the most bare bones RTW ticket. Should be €1000 - €1500. Then get shorter regional flights later. May be cheaper.
