Collection Agent Interview...

    Hi

    I have an interview for phone collection agent with KBC bank next monday. I ve never worked in financial industry before. Is there anyone who worked as a collection agent here? what sort of questions they ask..the interview is not directly with the bank its with brightwaters..will they asking much technical questions..please help..

    This is just credit control, right?

    I used to work in finance and credit control was something I did on a daily basis.

    There is nothing technical about it. In my case it went something like this:

    Mr. X owes me EUR 500. It is overdue for payment.

    1. I ring Mr. X and politely remind him EUR 500 is overdue for payment. He will say something along the lines of he will arrange payment today and typically will ask for another copy of the invoice. I would usually e-mail/fax it to him as it's easier to confirm he has received it.
    2. I wait a week and ring Mr. X to tell him payment has not been received. I ask him when will he make payment and will tell him I will contact him again on Friday (or whenever I think payment should have been received) if I have not received payment.
    3. Friday comes and payment has not been received. I ring him again and tell him payment has not been received. He will say the cheque has been lost in the post. I tell him no problem, I will come to his office today and collect a new cheque in person. This will freak him out. A cheque will be waiting for me.
    4. If I was unable to go to his office, I will post a registered letter to his office saying payment is overdue and we will charge a penalty/refer the matter to our solicitor/whatever if payment is not made within 7 days.
    5. He still doesn't make payment so I talk to our solicitor who says it is pointless suing him as the legal fees will cost more than EUR 500!

    That's about it in a nutshell. 99% of people pay somewhere between step 2 and 3.

    Something to bear in mind:

    I worked in an office, not a call centre. It is possible you will be in a call centre, so you'll probably have an auto-dialler calling people. Their details will automatically appear on your computer screen.

    There is nothing hard about the job. You just have to sound confident and professional on the phone.

    You will probably get paid commission too! I love commission jobs. :)
