Im looking to buy my first pair of walking boots but dont know where to look or what to look out for.
They will primarily be used for light hill walking and maybe the odd festival.
My budget is around the €160 mark
Any advice / links appreciated :)

Always personal choice but I find the staff in Snow and Rock very good. They know what they are talking about and take time to explain things and understand what you need.

As regards type of boot there are many on the market and you will quickly find that some manufacturers general sizing and cut will not work for you and others will. €160.00 should get you something suitable though

Personally I have two pairs of Mammuts (one heavy winter boot and one light scrambling / hiking boot) and they are excellent but as I say all personal choice.

Finally take your time because if the boots aren't right then nothing else will be. It took my wife about three months to find the boots she now has (albeit they are quite technical) and the time spent was well worth it

Think about trying custom insoles as well....I am newly converted to these and they have made a real difference. Also consider socks; there are loads on the market now and some of the more technical socks can make a difference. Ask the people selling the boots about lacing patterns.....once again the way I lace boots varies from use to use and different times of the year.

One final point do not get to caught up on Vibram soles. I used to think there was nothing beyond Vibram but other materials can do the same job - I get more grip on rock from my non Vibram boots - and do not add a premium to the price as Vibram does.

I have a pair of Meidhl boots too. Very comfy. Bought them for £150 in Tiso in Belfast about two years ago.

Edit: Here are the ones I bought:
