Getting my first Mac

Hi. I'll be getting a Mac, well a loan of one for about 12 months or so. MBP Basic model. The machine will be brand new but I will have to return it sometime in the future. I hope to be able to buy my own Mac by then. In the meantime (as I have zero experience of macs and limited knowledge of pcs) can some of ye offer suggestions as to software etc that would be useful, how about running windows etc what would make it easier or what can i do now to make it easy for me to swap all my stuff over to a new laptop in a year.

I would imagine your limited knowledge of PC's will be an advantage. Most people when they convert from pc to mac are very conformable with windows and assume that OSX is a difficult system to use. Facts are you will pick it up in no time, like everything you gotta use the system.

Bootcamp will allow you to create a windows partition on the MAC. I think you need 10.6 or at least that is when most of the drivers were released. Once you create a partition pop your windows CD in and install as normal.

As for transferring your files - you can just set up a network when you get your new machine and transfer the data.
