Kings Inns v FE1 Manuals

My sucking up has been to no avail so I must now engage in the 'black market' :D for a few of the manuals I'm after. I'm wondering what the difference is between the KI and FE1 manuals - apart form the obvious conclusion they are for different entrance examinations.

I do a bit of mooting and have several subjects that would be covered by FE1 manuals for my undergrad degree. I have, however, now finished Contract, Tort and Constitutional Law so perhaps, as it is the KI I want to sit I should go for KI manuals for those subjects?

Thanks in advance for any insight / advice.

EDIT Also any advice on which ones are best for 2012 - GCD, Indo or City?

For the topics that both FE1s and Kings Inns do exams in, the manuals are almost exactly identical. Ive had more than one of the same year manual in my hand at the same time for KI and FE1s and there was practically no difference.

For 2012, get the 2011 manuals, they are cheaper and they will be the same as 2012 unless there was something big that happened in the year.

Dont worry about what you are eventuually going to do, for now, get any cheap manual, after all, the law IS the law so KI or FE1, it doesnt matter.

When you come to do KI, you will be buying 5 new manuals anyway(if you have any sense) so the ones you get now will be a bit outdated.

Indo/GCD: its personal preference but I preferred the layour of Indo, seemed to be more condensed.

    TL;DR, get whatever.

Edit, KI exams have just finished and FE1s will be finished soon so you could pick up manuals easy enough soon, although folks might want to hang on to them until after results.

Kings Inns manuals use less words, and words that are more common in everyday language. Also, I think there are pictures in the Inns manuals to help the failed-solicitors get through the Inns exams.

I think I'm going to need the big print pop-up book version of Admin law this year!

I have managed to aquire 2011 Indo manuals - Criminal only runs to 176 pages - I've got the right thing haven't I? Seems amazing that it can be condensed down that much!

Yep, learn that whole manual off by heart and you will get a good 2:1 in your exams this year.

And these manuals are enough, if understood correctly, to pass he Inns or FE1s? Obviously for 2011 though!

Considering half the seminal cases you will learn are from the 70s and 80s, the difference between 2011 and 2012 will not be revolutionary law. You could pass 2012 with 2011 manuals, I did 2011 exams with 2010 manuals and know others who passed with older. The manuals will hardly have changed. Probably 1 or 2 extra cases per manual IF anything worthwile developed.
