    Howdy all!

Not sure if I'm allowed to name a business on here so I'll call it the green fronted golf shop on the quays in Drogheda!

Does anyone have any experience of them? Thinking of buying clubs and they seemed to have a decent set up for fitting and all that.

    Would appreciate any feedback?

    Cheers!

I guess you are talking about Golf Bag, I have been fitted by Ricky a few times and have always been happy.

He will try to push you towards Tour Edge stuff, stand your ground and he will still give you a good deal on other brands.

The set I am playing with now are the 1st in ages that were not fitted by him, I do miss my Harrison shafts

No knowledge of the shop, but isnt your observation on Ricky the kiss of death for him as a cub fitter ? Club fitting sells itself on being an objective scientific and skilled system of putting the club best suited to a golfer in his hands - not as a marketing charade to push a particular brand. The shop probably has a deal or higher margin on Tour Egde (never heard of Tour Edge by the way and bit of a gear ho here).

Not a bad shop. Used to be based down in the mall on west street. Same guy running it for years afaik. Had to ditch old shop when centre of shopping moved to scotch hall, where it is now. I presume you've tried Halpenny up in the retail park? Good selection and pretty competitive there.

Bought ping zings off Golf bag years ago but in there lately and didn't see anything like a bargain.

    Almaviva,
I've never been to the shop either, but maybe this guy actually thinks that tour edge have a good product? Then again he could be pushing them cos he makes the highest margin, I honestly don't know. I'm not trying to be smart (but it's about to sound that way so apologies in advance) but they're certainly not rubbish just because they're not well known in Ireland and you haven't heard of them. There's a world of fantastic equipment out there that can't be given away in Ireland, and will not be stocked by mcguirks/halpenny etc. because we don't see it being played by pros on TV, and golfers in Ireland are a pretty conservative market.

Tour edge exotics has some of the most highly praised fairway woods (in particular) on the "gear ho" sites like golfwrx.com or mygolfspy.com. A long drive champ just set a world ballspeed record using a TEE 3 wood (217mph i think). They even sometimes get used on the PGA tour without paying players to use, so they might not be too bad. For some of the OTT love they receive see http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/442951-tour-edge-exotics-on-pga-tour/

Apologies for taking the thread off-topic

I should add that when I was in a slump a few years ago I moved to the Tour Edge Bazoka irons and they were a god send.

Found the guy in this shop obnoxious. Kept pushing the tour edge stuff and seemed miffed when I said no. The M1 place or mc Guirks far superior service.

I've bought a few bits and pieces there and was generally satisfied.

My wife, however, is a definite 'non-fan' of them!! She went in to buy clubs from them and the guy kept talking to me - even though she's got a lower handicap than I have! Anyway, suffice to say that while he came across as knowledgeable and proficient, his approach in this instance did not earn him a sale.

I'll preface the following by stating I'm a member of L&B......

.....if you're in the Drogheda area it's worth calling into the new pro (Scott) in Laytown / Bettystown (www.scottkirkpatrick-golf.com). He's open to negotiating!! And will generally meet or better online prices, in my experience.
