Ethanol added petrol

Just wondering if ethanol added petrol is common in Ireland? In Australia, you can get perrol with 10% ethanol and it is marked as such and is generally around 4 cents/l cheaper than standard petrol. The reason i'm wondering is that there is a petrol station in my town that is consistently cheaper than the others (by around 4c/l) and when i was filling up there today i noticed on the stand of the pump that it said 'with extra ethanol' (or could have been 'with added ethanol). A work collegue also commented she wasn't getting as much mileage when using petrol from that station so was just wondering about the %of ethanol used.

There was a time when you could get E85. It might still be available but for tax reasons it's not as attractive any more.

Unleaded in all Maxol stations is 5% ethanol.

It has a higher octane rating than normal unleaded but has a lower energy rating - a litre of E95 is 30.5 MJ (megajoules) vs. 31 MJ for a litre of normal unleaded so you would expect to use more petrol for a given distance.
