Converting Double Mixer Tap sink to accept single mixer tap

    Hi All,

I have a sink at home with a double mixer tap on it that needs replacing. I've done a good bit of looking around, I can get "double" inlet mixer taps, but to be honest they don't look great.

Has anyone done this before? I'm thinking about converting it over to use one of the newer single mixer taps.

Do people just enlarge one of the existing holes, say the one nearer the draining board and blank off the other one? I don't think it can go in the middle cause of the over flow pipe, but could be wrong.

    Any advice would be appreciated...

    Thanks

Yea I saw a few of them online. Two places I went to today were out of stock, but will have them in next week. Also B&Q do something similar for €90. I want them in 1/4 turn as the person is older and would make it easier, but all the ones i've seen look a bit crap.

I'm just wondering has anyone done the conversion (double -> single) and were happy with it?

Im a plumber i have done the conversion on request, to be honest even with having a proper chrome cover on the hole that wasnt used i still thought it looked a bit odd, as in i wouldnt fancy it in my own home, but the customer gets what the customer wants.

The ones i linked to were quarter turn , actually im fairly sure i fitted the exact same ones a few years ago and they were grand.

What i will say is when you do a conversion with these types usually the tap holes are right behind the bowel so you end up having to tighten up nuts etc in tight/awkward spaces make sure you have the right tools before you start as it can sometimes be painful trying to do it with standard spanners and grips etc.

I guess it doesn't really matter if its a little more expensive, saves messin about with a hole saw etc, when i should be out enjoying the w/e :-)

    Thanks again.

Picked up a 1.5 sink in b&q for €42, reduced from €80. So mono block tap it is :-)
