Not really a bargain "alert" as its always at this price, but Aldi are selling 30 x 500mg tablets of Glucosamine Sulphate for €1.29 which is a really good price compared to other shops e.g. Tesco Glucosamine Sulphate 500Mg X 30 €3.50

    Lidl do these too.

They have a good range of supplements.

Vitamin C and multivitamin effervescent tablets are great value too.

An area I know a little bit about, finally :D

30x500mg is not really cheap at €1.29.

The 2kcl glucosamine is not 100% pure which is not an issue.

However one thing to watch for is that in some cases you will get a 1000mg tablet with 700-800mg of active glucosamine in it or you get a 1333mg tablet which gives you a net of 1000mg.

See here for an example - http://www.hollandandbarrett.ie/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=157&prodid=345

If the tablet weighs 500 or 1000mg be aware you're getting about 400 or 800mg of active ingredient. A bit cheeky imo but nothing wrong with it.

In terms of price 360x1000mg Glucosamine kcl tablets can be bought in the UK for £9.99. That is 24 times the aldi/lidl amount. :)

Where is it available locally for cheaper/better value?

Widely used to help prevent joint pain.

I used this supplement for a while and wondering if anyone else suffers the same side effect as me?

Slightly embarrassing, but could I call it an increase in smell levels?:o:o

I put it down to the Sulphur!

Very common to have increased flatulence.

More common with 2kcl than with the higher purity hcl.

Much worse if you take the powder as you'll use higher quantities.

Copa - you may not get it cheaper locally but that still does not make it good value.:)

I dislike 500mg as imo a realistic dosage is at least 2000mg and personally a lot higher as in 5000mg minimum.

So it's not cheap, but there is nowhere you can buy in cheaper in Ireland?
    Grand so.

However you could buy it online and have it delivered and it would work out almost 50% cheaper albeit on a larger and more versatile pack size.
Does the alternate product have to be available in Ireland and in a store or is online acceptable?:)

I was just in Aldi, buying some eggs - had a look at the Glucosamine when there.

'I've just been told I was in Lidl not Aldi - so the Lidl ones are €1.29 and as below - Aldi/Lidl are one and the same to me! :D'

It is a 798mg tablet giving 600mg of actual glucosamine so at this level it is a much better deal.

The Zipvit.co.uk product would cost €19.20 delivered and the equivalent in Aldi would be €25.80 - 20 of the aldi jars would give the same amont as in the Zipvit product.

I wrongly assumed this was a 500mg tablet which was giving about 375mg of actual glucosamine. As I said this is common.

I'm happy to publicly climb down off my soapbox when off the mark![:D]

Could be useful to some with Glucosamine not being covered by the medical card or any HSE schemes anymore.

The Lidl ones look like better value.
One thing worth finding out is if there is any vat on them.
In the UK there is VAT on tablets and capsules but in most cases there is not in Ireland.

Obviously if there is no VAT that would or should impact on the potential pricing we could see on something like this.

Govnor would like to get some online shops that sell this, I'm finding it very helpful for my knee's as im doing the Dublin marathon.

Since I've started using this (4 months) its like my knees are greased ! from research this supplement has no side effects apart from the positive ones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

    Good results there JJ.

My personal choice would be www.healthspan.co.uk

    I like glucosamine hcl.

For the joints I would also look at some fish oil and green lipped mussel if you can get it.

The latter was actually proven to regenerate cartilage.

    How is the training going?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,786 ✭✭✭JJJJNR

Hi Guv, yeah taking omega 3, 6, 9 every day along with the glucosamine, also an effervescent vitamin c drink.. training going great!

will check that site thanks. !

Last time I bought this supplement was in: hollandand barrett in the Ilac center. As I can remember the quality was fine, but it wasn't a bargain. The guy working in the shop was chatting at the door, and blocking any potential customers from getting in. I stood there politely for an unreasonable amount of time, just to see how long he would block the door. After some time, when he eventually let me in, he used hard-ball sales tactics, to try and get me to "buy one get one free". I told him, these are primitive tactics, to use(having worked in sales!), and I would decide what I wanted to buy not him. What an experience ! Irish people are normally good sales people. But I found a rare exception. H&B should be more discerning who the employ ! Anyway H&B quality good. Price no so good.

Pity about mild side effects. "flatulence". You might try taking charcoal capsules, you have to do a bit of fasting, then take lots of the charcoal ,and then loads of clean water. This soaks up any stray bacteria colonies that 'get busy' in a bad way. An old remedy. But it works if done right.

Never taken charcoal but am a fan of it for its price, simplicity and effectiveness!
