All these ads with Gay Bryne and Ryan Turbidy telling us about Saorview and the future and what Saorview can do for you.. ....

Turns out that you cant record a programme on 1 channel while you are viewing another channel with Saorview.

That depends on the box that you're using and has nothing to do with the Saorview service itself.

Cheap DVRs will only let you watch/record one channel at a time.

With the right equipment, you could watch and record all of the Saorview channels at the same time if you wanted to.

Well the story is in alot of newspapers recently about the inability to record a programme from 1 channel while you are watching another channel.

Well that newspaper is wrong, some TVs mightn't be able to do it, or some set top boxes won't be able to, that's nothing to do with the service, it's down to the hardware, my box can record up to 9 different channels at once so I can confirm that they are wrong :)

If the 2nd multiplex ever launches, a receiver with 2 terrestrial tuners will be needed for full watch/record flexibility.

If you have a Saorview TV and a Saorview box for recording you can watch whatever channel you want on the Saorview TV while the Saorview box records something else.

This is the same as it was with an analogue TV and VCR.

Hi, how do you go about recording up to 9 different channels at once then? What box do you have? :)

My Sony HDD PVR allows me to record one Saorview channel and watch another.

Yes thought that it might have been a very expensive Linux machine. :)

The first Saorview-approved twin-tuner PVR from Walker expected to be in the shops by early Oct according to the people in Saorview - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80522570#post80522570

That's good to hear for recording Saorview but not much use for recording the T2 HD channels from the North in October or from Wales at present either. Pity that Vestel don't install T2 tuners for Walker but just go for the Irish minimum specification instead. :)

I suppose at some point, DVB-T chips will become unavailable, as the larger markets move to T2. Plenty of the Saorview approved tvs from the big makers are just tweaked & rebadged Freeview HD sets.

The Triax TR212 that is pending approval and available from retailers at present allows you to watch one and record another.
