Looking at buying an 05/06 Hyundai coupe.
It's my third car. My car now and the one previous are low engine cars - 1.2, so bit weary about changing to a 1.6.

I live near Dublin airport and travel to Dublin city center back and forward 5 days a week. So basically don't want to be spending all my wages on petrol :o

Are they the type of car to guzzle petrol and from anyone else's experience -will I see a huge difference (increase) money wise when buying petrol, insurance and tax?

    Thanks

What are you currently driving? It was never particularly economical when I drove mine, but then I drove the crap out of it to get any sort of performance out of it. I wouldn't expect much more than 25MPG from it, especially driving in and out of town.

    Currently driving a 1.2 03 VW polo, so it's a big change.

A 1.6 is nothing to worry about really, but if costs are that much of a concern for you then you're probably better off sticking to a 1.2, or possibly considering a 1.4 as a compromise?

What are your reasons for changing, is it just the looks you're after?

My freind drives one and I love them, but yeah it's really just the look of them :o
Can't seem to find anything the same style I like that is a 1.2 or 1.4.

Grande punto? Or what it's called. Small engine, but fun?

Not a Fiat fan - nothing but bad experiences with them

    That's ok ya know, it's allowed. ;)

Yeah if it's the looks you're after, then I doubt you'd find much with a smaller engine that would match it. Not for the price point anyway.

If it's the car you want, then go for it. Sure it might cost a bit more in tax and running costs but if it puts a smile on your face every day driving to work then isn't it worth it? :D

The 1.6 litre Coupe might not be that quick but it will feel like a rocket compared to a 1.2 litre Polo. The fuel consumption is about average for a car it's size and weight but like everything if you have a heavy right foot then fuel consumption will rise.

Try and get the facelifted model, they came out in the middle of 2005 and got a nicer interior with half leather seats as standard and higher grade plastics. They also got clear indicator lenses in the front headlights which look more modern than the previous model. Also make sure the electric sunroof works perfectly as they are known for having motor issues.

I've jumped from a 1.2 to a 1.9 Diesel. It's actually slower than the 1.2 in places but apart from the tax and earlier service intervals it's very cheap to run :) far cheaper on fuel and low down diesel grunt are pretty sweet :D

Nothing wrong with Fiats either, just that people don't mind them
