    Hi chaps

I'm looking to expand the capabilities of my HTPC, by adding freesat. I'd like HD resolutions if possible {I think BBC1 HD is freesat?}, but am not too bothered about having dual tuners as I don't record much at all.

Are there any tips on where to start, what to avoid etc?

    Thanks for any input

Well the one thing I can definitely say is that if you want to watch the HD channels then you need to get a DVB-S2 card as the HD channels are generally migrating towards that. I've used some of TeViis stuff and they do a half height single DVB-S2 card which might suit, but I don't have enough experience with other manufacturers to make comparisons.

I have a 'spare' Tevii S480 dual DVB S/S2 card you can have to try out if you like, and if it works for you we can do a deal.

I couldn't get it working properly at the time, but suspect it was down to a too weak PSU supplying the 12V rail for the LNB power. I say that because I then got a TBS 6981 and initially that didn't work either, but replacing the PSU did the trick, and it's likely the Tevii card was OK all along.

    PM me if you're interested.

    Cheers man, pm sent.

What voltage psu was originally in your htpc? I just ask because mine isn't thathigh from memory & is making six hdd's chug along already...

It was an el-cheapo HTPC case that had a built-in 60W PSU in it. The strange thing was that I measured the power consumption using a meter and it was only drawing 35W, but somehow when it was doing it's initial transponder scans it conked out half way through. I replaced it with a 150W picoPSU and all was well. I haven't tried the Tevii card with the new PSU yet, so I have no idea whether it was the PSU at fault there, or some strange incompatibility between the MB and the card. I don't think the card is at fault as I exchanged it once anyway, and the chances of two duff cards is quite low.
