    Hi,

I have pretty poor eyesight and spend alot of money on lenses and glasses and lately have been thinking that a: my current optician, who I've with for 12 years, is not that great and b: they're expensive and in 12 years have never offered me one bonus, benefit or concession. They also have a very poor range of glasses frames.

I would really like to change opticians but would rather go to someone recommended that just picking someone random. I live in the south city so ideally an optician in town, south city or south Dublin would be great. Any recommendations?

The optical shop in blackrock. Helen is the optician/owner and caoimhin is the other optician. Both very professional and they have a great range of frames too.

I've heard good things about Dixon Hempenstall on Suffolk St. I had an eye test there recently, and their thoroughness and professionalism was miles beyond my last optician.

Also, an optician on the southside had a great coupon deal a few months ago, so that's something to watch out for.

Thanks for all recommendations. Blackrock is a tad too far got me but I'll still bear it in mind.

I've heard about Dixon hempenstall before actually. Are they expensive? I think I currently pay about €70 for a sight test and they then take it from the price of my lenses which are usually about €250 in total god six months. I'm on fortnightly bausch and Lomb lenses.

I'm not sure about the frames and lens prices, but I paid €35 for a sight test.

that deal is not as good as it appears.
be very wary of groupon deals that seem too good to be true, they usually are.

There was a thread about that optician in rip-off ireland about a month or two ago.

OK, thanks for that, I wasn't aware of that.

I availed of a coupon for an optician in the west and received excellent service and a lovely pair of frames. It's a pity the other offer wasn't the real deal.

Even though it's a chain, I highly recommend Vision Express on Henry St. I moved to them from being a Specsavers customer many years ago and find them excellent.

They seem to ahead of SS with their products (especially contact lenses) and they never keep you waiting for your appointment.
