Hi , i have a ps3 and can only get a nat typeof 2 with imagine wimax, the problem is i find it hard to join my friends. Imagine doesnt let you open ports yourself. Im wondering is there anyway around this and if i have to call them what ports need opening.
    Thanks
P.S Im on a wireless connection

You need to call them to manually open the specific ports, i believe they have them already. I think these are them:

    TCP Ports: 80, 443, 5223, and 10070 - 10080
    UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070

Also, i'd highly highyl recommend using a wired connection. I have WiMax myself, and the ping rates are medium to poor, so having wireless will make it even worse. If you can't get near the router, i recommend buying some homeplugs, nearly the exact same as a wired connection.

NAT 2 is all you need. What games are you having problems with?

I had NAT1 for years with Eircom but a few weeks ago I was sent out a new router and now I'm NAT2. Have'nt really notice much difference when playing Black Ops though.

NAT 1 is DMZ [Direct on the internet]. Opens your PS3 up to the potential dangers of the internet. In fairness there isn't much for the PS3 to worry about. It also prevents you from using your PS3 as a media center. On NAT1, you can't access your NAS, you can't access any other DNLA device on your network. It's VERY limiting. Fair enough if you use it 100% for gaming.
NAT 2 is the desired configuration. It keeps you protected behind the firewall [and/or NAT] and if you have uPNP enabled, allowes unrestricted gaming.
NAT 3 is shoite for gaming. You are behind the firewall which is always desired. However, the firewall doesn't let you out to play.

OP : Do you have uPNP enabled? Forget about port forwarding, you don't [shouldn't] need it.

Wait so NAT2 is better than NAT1? I did notice I was never able to use the Media Server when I was NAT1. Haven't tried it with NAT2 yet though.

Well going from experience with WiMax Nat2 is terrible... I found I needed Nat1 or it was basically unplayable (ping rates aren't great at best with WiMax).
