Tyreland in Swords, do part worn tyres and tend to have decent brands

Last time I was in there, there was a porsche, a merc and a bmw in the waiting area.

I was off to the NCT and needed a new tyre, but the wait was too long, and the ****ing jammy tyre blew out outside the nct centre!!!!

They are also very good on customer service, a real pleasure to deal with.

I never understand people looking for the "cheapest tyres" they can get. I usually ask for the "safest" tyres I can get. They make make the difference between your wife sliding off the roundabout into another car, or safely getting home. While it's wise to shop around for value for money, it's not wise to sacrifice safety for saving €20-€30.

That's why I suggested tyreland, they are very good quality tyres with 30% wear, and they are at least 50% cheaper than new tyres and better quality.

As an example, I would save at least 50-70 per tyre for my car if I used them, I'd be much more able to afford to replace tyres once a year with that saving rather than drive on rubbish tyres for an equivalent price.

My reply was not in response to yours. It just happened to be posted after yours was. I've no issue with good quality used tyres. My problem is with people buying pure sh!te for the sake of saving a few euro in the short term, but not realising that crap tyres will generally wear down more quickly, costing more in the long term.

Sure, no problem, at the end of the day the OP is looking for good quality at a good price, I nearly dropped dead having to pay 100 euro for a ****e tyre in a tyre place across from the NCT centre just to do the test, knowing I'd be replacing it shortly for half the price :)

The issue here is educating people, there is a bit of the Irish psyche that considers "second hand" as ****e, but good quality, good brand part worn tyres can often mean people are safer on the roads, it's more affordable etc

Tell that to 90% of Irish people and they'll say bollox to that, I'll buy new and I'll be fine!

No, the OP quite clearly said that he was looking for and I quote "cheap and cheerful" i.e. the least expensive possible way getting the car through the NCT.

There is no need to be ripped off or to be spending mad money on tyres for a Yaris, but buying the cheap crap like the Sunnys and Triangles etc is sheer lunacy, and at the end of the day, tyres are the only thing that keeps your car on the road, so I simply cannot understand why people want to cheap out on them.

I got proper Firestone tyres for a Corolla on 14 inch wheels like the OP's car has for €45 per tyre, these are not fantastic either but at least I know I'll safely be able to stop in an emergency with them and I know I'll have plenty of grip in the rain - not something I'd say about the cheapest possible brands and the ultra cheap crap.

For the record, part worns on a quality tyre like Firestones or Michelin or Pirelli or Bridgestones would be far superior to any new tyre from Sunny or Triangle or any of those ultra cheap brands.

    I must apologise so!

I didn't read the OP correctly at all.

My apologies, thank you for your agreement on part worns :)

If you're in the Coolock area then try heading over to Edenmore and the tyre place there. Usually has decent tyres and isn't a complete rip off. Or even try Atlas down in Baldoyle as another option.

The other option is to buy two yourself online on Eiretyres or Camskill and then get them fitted. Can sometimes work out a lot cheaper. I know Scully's on the Howth road will fit tyres you provide without a problem.

I think the place in Ednemore is the Kwik-Fit Tyres and I agree, they are a good place, I've used them before a number of times.

Also the Atlas in Baldoyle is great. I use them regularly and have done for the past year to service my car, install HID lights and change all tyres and brakes, including a sticky caliper. I also got that "prevent a puncture" stuff put in my tyres on both cars. Didn't fancy my wife having to change a tyre on the zafira (the spare is under the car), so it made sense.

I think buying the economy tyre online makes no sense, as there is no saving to be made when you consider delivery cost and fitting cost (especially for one, or two tyres). It makes sense if you want/need a high end brand and can make a good saving on a full set.

I bought 175/65/14 uniroyal rainexperts for my yaris for 65E each including steel wheels and fitting/balancing a year ago.

I think it is possible to get them for 55-60E if you shop around. If you want cheaper, I think entry models of hankook and kumho was %10 cheaper at that size but I highly recommend uniroyals as they are grippy as hell.

Where did you go in the end.

I find dealing with Tyres places a complete PITA. You ask for a decent tyre, you have to drag the model of the tyre out of them, then you find its not what you asked for. I ask for a All season tyre, 10:10 I get a summer tyre recommended. NO one has any stock of the tyres you want. Such a PITA.

They should make it compulsory for tyre places to list their stock, online so you can look up the best tyres.

Yeah, like they do with home appliance regarding energy usage. A list of all the tyres in stock, with braking distances in the wet and dry displayed using an easy to read, colour coded graph outside the tyre place so you don't even have to deal with the staff if you don't like what they have. Most places just sell crap anyway.
