TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF M1 Motorway between Junction 14 and Junction 16

It is intended to temporarily close the M1 Motorway between Junction 14 and Junction 16 to through traffic to facilitate pavement renewal works on the following dates

    7pm on Friday, 7th September 2012 to 7am on Sunday, 9th September 2012
    7pm on Friday, 14th September 2012 to 7am on Sunday, 16th September 2012
    7pm on Friday, 21st September 2012 to 7am on Sunday, 23rd September 2012

The alternative routes for traffic for the duration of the closures are as follows:

N33 National Road & N52 National Road between Motorway Junction 14 and 16.

    A few things about this.
Firstly, the diversion route does not use the R232 (old N1), presumably to avoid traffic through Castlebellingham.
Secondly, did the road between Ardee and Dundalk not cease to be the N52 in the recent renumbering? It didn't get a number at all, as I recall.
Thirdly, the proposed times of closure are 7pm on Friday to 7am on Sunday. This makes no sense to me, 7pm is still pretty busy while there is little traffic at 7am on Sunday. Why not 10pm Friday to 10am Sunday?
Lastly, this work reflects the crap quality of the Dunleer Dundalk surfacing, the Dunleer bypass is 7 years older but is in much better shape generally.

I also can't understand why they are using the N52 between Ardee and Dundalk as a diversion route - I well remember travelling that route back in the 90s and it is an atrociously dangerous, twisty and narrow road which is far inferior to the largely straight and wide R132 (old N1).

It's also disappointing that this section of motorway needs to be resurfaced only after what, 11 or 12 years? In fact, travelling on the newer motorways around the country I suspect quite a lot of them will have to be resurfaced sooner rather than later because such a poor original surface job was done of them.:(

Does the NRA have any penalties in place for contractors who do a shoddy surfacing/build job?

Apparently southbound was closed this weekend and northbound next weekend.
Having come this way today I could see little evidence of work, although the road was wet. Diverting for an entire day is a significant disruption, they'd need to do something to warrant this, not just have a single crew doing a handful of patches.
