    Hi all,

My battery went dead in my ford focus hatchback yesterday.
Now the radio is asking for a code, I looked online and people seem to be able to generate the codes using the cars serial number.

Does anyone know where the serial number is located and how I would generate the radio code?

The serial number is on the body of the radio itself. You need to remove the radio to be able to see it. If you get the radio out then post the serial number here and someone will get the code for you.

Assuming you have the standard 5000 RDS, slide the radio out and find a sticker on top with the serial code, beginning with M (the chances are some sound dealer has written the code on this sticker anyway). Plug it into the attached calculator to find the code (press 5 to calculate it). Turn the radio in the car on, and use buttons 1-4 to put in the 4 digits. Then press 5 to unlock. Simples.

If you don't have the radio removal keys, halfords have them for less than €5, or any decent garage will do it for free, it takes about 5 seconds if you have the keys. And when you do get the code, it would be a good idea to write it down somewhere hidden on the car so that you don't have to remove the radio to find it again ;)

You don't have to remove the Ford radios. If you press two buttons(6 and 1 I think from memory) the serial number is displayed on the screen.

Thanks for the help guys, i tried pressing 1 and 6 and the code 4-08 came up with a little 1 underneath it. When i enter the code a little 4 comes up under it and it wont enter? :/

Serial no should start with a letter as far as I know. Maybe an M
Buttons 1 and 6 as mentioned or 2 and 6 maybe, otherwise its unit out and you will find it on a sticker.

Try pulling out the ashtray, sometimes the code sticker is on the bottom of them
