I had 4 years no claims bonus with Quinn Direct.I emigrated in April 2010,my car insurance expired in March 2010,I was away for a year and came back in April 2011 for a month's holiday, during this month my mum put me on temp cover on her car(with One Direct).

Now I am back for good, rang up Liberty(former Quinn) the other day and they tell me I have lost my no claims because I wasn't insured for two years. Is this correct?surely this shouldn't be the case, just because I was in Oz for two years,I had no insurance there BTW.Anyone been in a similar situation?

Unfortunately this is the way and has been for a long time. I remember definitely over 20 years ago and nothing has changed.

You could approach other Insurers and advise them that you have just had a 2 year lapse but previously had 4 years NCB but the reality is its money game there not bothered about your experience really just
getting more money out of you if they can.

try 123.ie or chill.ie, they may now be your best option....jsut have to find that deposit every year up front but generally cheaper quotes.

    Good Luck!

That is correct. For most insurance companies your NCB is only recognised for 2 years after your last policy lapse's.
