    Hi all

Ive been renting for the last number of years in a couple of different properties and am in the process of applying for tax back for rent paid however Ive run into a problem.

I was in a place for around 15 months however I dont have any contact details for the land lord as he has emigrated so Im unable to get his PPS number.

Is it possible to get the application processed without this?

    Cheers.

    :)

It's fine. Put in as much info as you have, name, address, phone etc.

What does the tax man look for to prove you were renting?

For example, would showing a bank statement where you paid the rent every month be sufficient?

If you go to www.revenue.ie and click on tax credits and reliefs, then private rented accommodation there is a link to the claim form (Rent1) on which the claim is made. This will show you the information needed.

Proof of payment - the bank statements should suffice although I think any tenancy is supposed to have a rent book showing dates and amounts paid.
