    Hi,

I'm currently selecting my various modules and I have a couple of questions:

    1. I chose English/History when applying initially. I'm not so sure about English
now. I presume I have to keep it and should select 20 credits for this (4 modules)? Can I select less than 20 credits or would this be unwise?

    2. I don't quite get the whole seminar/small group/tutorial idea.
Can someone explain a little about these?
On each module there seems to be loads of these available. How many of these do I need to enrol on? Are they optional? Are any of these online tutorials?

    Thanks

Had a look at this thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...p?t=2056735859

Sorry, still don't understand the seminar/small group/tutorial thing.

I'm sure I will but I haven't reached that stage in the registration process yet.

Also, if I'm finding English a chore what are my options if any?

    Thanks again

They are all a little different yet similar. Basically, you and about 20 others sit in a room and discuss your subject with one of the postgrads. Depending on which tutorial/seminar etc - you might have group work, assignments or just discussion.
You will have a number of offerings available, so select one that suits your timetable.

To continue English to the next level, you have to complete Lit in Context 1 and 2. If you don't want to do it, as long as you have 10 credits completed of another subject you can continue that to the next year - though any core modules MUST be completed.

If you really hate English and don't want to do it, talk to the program office about getting it changed.

    That's really helpful, thanks!

So... 12 modules and 12 seminars/labs/tutorials or whatever.
Easy now to see how the timetable gets filled up!

If you do English, you'll have a Small Meeting Group once a week and one lecture.

Ah! So it's not that intensive.. thanks again!

... I wouldn't say that. Lit 1 and 2 have group projects, so there is a lot of research to be done, but this does depend on your group and the kind of grade you want.

The other two have a good bit of reading to be done. Coming Age of Narratives has a good bit of reading. About a book a week, but that subject isn't mandatory. The other one is a little less intense.

Oh Dear, I think I've been misunderstanding something!

    Lectures Semester 2 Offering 1 Wed: 12:00-12:50 (20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33)
    Lectures Semester 2 Offering 1 Mon: 11:00-11:50 (20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 29, 31, 32, 33)

Does this mean two lectures to attend or is it a choice?

    Just noticed the weeks.

    I take it it's 2 lectures

    No, it's a choice.

    No, it's a choice.

The fact that it seems to say 'Offering 1' for both slots would imply otherwise.

Lectures rarely have a choice of times, particular first year modules.

You have two in the week. Monday and Wednesday. Not all modules will have one lecture. Geography, for example, had two.
