    Hi Guys,

First off I apologies if this has already been covered but I couldn't find anything specifically related to my question!

Essentially the drive is not working, it fell literally about 3 inches onto carpet and now its skipping or making a click/tick sound like something is loose when it's switched on. The laptop is not recognising it.

Can I open it up and see if its just a matter of securing something or is that risky for damaging it? Any suggestions would be great.

Also, I have an old Laptop that I would love to try data recovery, is there any kind of little dock I can get that I can just plug the hard drive into?

    Thanks :)

Was the hard drive on when you dropped it ?

If it wasn't on, then the head might've got knocked out of position.
If it was on, it might've permanently damaged the platter surface.

Thanks for the response CreepingDeath :)

As far as I'm concerned it was off, as I remember running over to switch it on and see if it was ok. I reallt think its only some wee thing that has come loose or out of position like you mentioned.
