Hi all !! Sorry in advance if this sounds a bit mental !! ive just recently just got back into mountain-biking and have been getting out 2-3 times a week for the last 9-10 weeks , generally cycling by road over to the the trails around 15klms over and spending around 3-3.5 hours hoofing around the trails and then cycle the 15klms back home !! ive been been eating well before leaving and eat a good few bananas & nutri-grain bars and go threw 3 litres of water while out and about !! problem is ive lost 2 kgs since ive started back and although im not really worried about that i wouldnt really want to be losing that every 8-10 weeks !!! im 6 2" and generally walk around at 86-87 kgs .. Anybody have any advice on what foods i should be eating or is there any of them supplements worth using that might stop/slow down the weight loss !! thanks in advance if anybody could offer advice ......

simply eat more calories than you burn.

Crisps should help you out there :D

I understand where you are coming from as Im the same height as you however 2kg over 2 months+ sounds pretty small for the time on the bike.
I would say (going on my experience) if that is your weight loss progress to date it will prob level off soon.

Not to be crude or flippant but it isn't a lot of weight, some people can lose 2kg in an instant after sitting on the loo......

To answer your question though I find home made fruit smoothies, pasta and bread should pile on the weight, esp if eaten after finishing on the bike

Why would you want to carry excess weight .... most of us spend our lives trying to lose it! Using any of the standard tables your ideal weight should be a maximum of 82kgs and from a health perspective that's probably where you should be! Certainly losing weight makes cycling a whole lot easier!!
As the lads say if you don't want to lose weight - eat more, but I don't know why you would!

Couple of good books on nutrition
    Paleo solution - Robb Wolf - robbwolf.com
Paleo diet for athletes - Joe Friel

They would give you a good understanding of what to eat and when to keep maxium health and proper immune system function

You won't loose 2KG's like that all the time. The first 2 are easy.
I was at 78KG, and within 6 months I got down to about 73KG. For the last year I've not really dropped under 71KG and I have the same food and activity levels as when I was originally dropping down.

Dr. Nick's advice for rapid weight gain:
"Now there are many options available for dangerously underweighted individuals like yourself. I recommend a slow steady gorging process combined with assal horizontology . . . You'll want to focus on the neglected food groups such as the whipped group, the congealed group and the choc-o-tastic
Be creative. Instead of making sandwiches with bread, use Pop-Tarts. Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon. And remember, if you're not sure about something, rub it against a piece of paper. If the paper turns clear, it's your window to weight gain. "

(from the simpsons -should work ) :D

Don't forget that at the same time you are loosing weight, you are also gaining muscle tone, so the initial weight loss starts to balance out..

Edit: Drive to the trail head car park and go to Taylor's pub for pies and Guinness after! ;)

have been in a similar position myself, I try to stay around 70kg, at the moment I'm 68... I usually let it go down in the knowledge that there will be weeks when I don't get to do any excercise and then take a month or more where I'd ease back a lot per year (usually christmas) and maybe get back to 75kg. Summer before last, I tried a *diet* I went down to 64 and just felt ill all the time so ever since I just eat whatever, beer and cereal kinda does the trick.

Much like (healthy) weight gain you will plateau and then stop losing it.

Alternatively eat WAY more and start lifting weights as well if you really want to keep the weight on, however if you're doing 4 or so hours of cardio 3 times a week you're just going to lose weight.

Thanks a million for all the advice lads !! im probably just being a paranoid android !! True enough i have noticed that my legs have got much leaner and theres virtually no fat on my arms anymore so i suppose i should just keep trying to build on them rather than worrying about losing weight !! thanks again for all the expert and scientific advice !!!!!!!! :D

2kg really is very little, I've lost 7.5kg since the middle of June (12 weeks) the first 5kg came off quickly over approx 6 weeks but then it started to slow down and I only lost 2.5kg in the last 6 weeks despite cycling more often than at first however I'm considerably more fitter now than I was and so it takes less effort to do the same amount of cycling.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, it'll plateau once you reach a certain level if fitness.

"im 6 2" and generally walk around at 86-87 kgs"

I'm 6 2" also and weigh 73.5 kgs at the minute so you have nothing to be worrying about in my view:)Lack of weight is good for climbing:)
