Hi, just got my new glasses today with a -5.25 lens in both eyes. I was a bit surprised to learn that this is a "strong prescription" according to the optician.

I'm just wondering what the average is around here as a comparison?

A prescription of above plus or minus four is considered to be a high prescription.
Me, I'm about a +4.25 in my right eye and a +3.25 in my LE.

I was -1.25 Le and -1 Re but got tested recently and both eyes are now -1!

-1 in both Eyes. Just need them for Driving and Watching TV etc. But find myself wearing them more often now because it annoys me when I can't make out faces in the street or read sign posts while walking.

In terms of Astigmatism, what is considered a high prescription?

e.g assuming a person is neither long or short sighted, i.e. sphere is plano,
what level of CYL would be considered high?

Anything over -3 would be considered medium and over -6 to be high.

    I'm -6.00 on both eyes :(
I started when I was 5 at like -1.25 both eyes, not much change til I was like 13. It went from -2.00 to -3.00 then to -4.50 next year and -6.00 this year. Definitely considering Laser eye surgery in a few years

how can you be suprised that -5.25 is a strong prescription?!!

With your glasses off you will only be able to see clearly a few inches in front of your face!

You might have seen it but the person who was -24 didnt. :D

Im -5.5 in both eyes. Probably -5.75 next time i go for a checkup.

Im 27 and my eyesight has been decreasing about -.25 every year without fail since i first had glasses as a kid.

Ive started doing eye exercises today and will continue to do it every day to see if i can get any results. Id like for my eyesight just to stabilise (Possibly just bull**** but its worth a shot).

Will proabably end up going for eye surgery in a few years.

I'm a -8.5 for contacts in both eyes, mine got increasingly worse every year til I was 28, am 33 now and they have stayed the same since then, so maybe it stops at a stage!!!

I'm -2.75 in both eyes and would consider myself blind as a bat without glasses/contacts

    I have a relative who is + 13.

I understand that this is "exceptionally exceptional"

I except this will take a lot of management and work down through the years (relative is very young).

What are the chances of people's eyesight IMPROVING over the years?

Do people's prescriptions come down over the years? Could you go from, say - 4 to -1, or maybe be able to give up wearing glasses completely? Anyone any experience of this?

Mine improved at around the age of 35. The optician told me that's very common. It's been stable since. I'm -1.0 in both eyes with -2.5 (RE) and -1.5 (LE) corrections for astigmatism. I was -1.5 before the improvement.

I have been prescribed -.25 for both eyes for VDU use only as well. She noticed some sort of eye-laziness from being in front of a PC all day so gave a weaker prescription to force the eye to work harder. Haven't got those glasses yet.

I posted earlier that mine was -6.25 (but have been lasered since) at 35.

However they did get better since I was 30 - but not by much, maybe -0.5.

+6.25 RE and +6.75 LE at last check up.

My four year old daughter is +4.5 in RE and +4.00 in LE... won't patch until RE comes inline with LE.
