Syringe and Needle ?

    why do websites and my coop only have syringes. and no needles with them,

    today i went to the coop op, just syringes everywhere, no needles. . .

    also on magenta/agri dir same thing. ..


    + what size needle would be suitable for injecting fluke or worm does in to a bullock. . . ?

    I would usually use 16 gauge 3/4" or 1".
    Be sure to buy needles that are compatible with the syringe that you have.

    3/4" if injecting subcutanious (under the skin) 1" or 1 an1/4" id injecting into the muscle

    i know its probably covered elsewhere but can somebody explain their technique for injecting cattle. particularly, strong bullocks. under the skin. what type of syringe and where exactly on the animal do ye inject? thanks

    I think it's different for everyone Eddie. If I was treating an animal over a period of days and all injections were subcutaneous, I'd try and vary from area to area where possible. Normally start at the loose patch of skin behind the front shoulder, pinch it up and inject there. Then move to the neck the next day/second injection. This can be affected by some of our 'lively' cattle:rolleyes:

    I would use a 16 Ga needle 3/4" long into the loose skin behind the front shoulder. Generally I would work over the bullock and inject the off side, working away from your hand that is holding out the skin and injecting downward and in under the skin. Be careful not to go in through the skin and back out through it again!
