Bringing A Bike On A Plane?

I'm flying to Cork from Amsterdam in the next few weeks and have procured a sweet bicycle that I would love to bring home. Does anybody know if it is possible to bring a bike on a plane with Air Lingus? It's a fairly large Dutch style bike, not sure I'd be able to break down the components successfully.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Depends, what colour is the bike?

It'll never fit in the over head bins.

Here's a crazy idea. Call Aer Lingus and ask them?

It is possible to transport bikes by plane, but it costs a bit and generally the airlines like them packaged fairly neatly, i.e. partially disassembled. Try the cycling forum for more advice.

You actually have to tell the airline you're bringing any oversized luggage in advance. I think it could be 2 weeks before the flight. It has to be in a bike box, so your best bet is to bring it to a bike shop and get a box from them, or ask them to pack it for you.
There is of course a charge, but it's not too bad. Definitely cheaper than sending the bike by post.

There are more details on the aerlingus site, so go do some diggin!
