Offical photos of the 2013 Mazda 6 have been released:

It's longer and wider than the outgoing model but is actually lighter too. New 2.2 litre cleaner diesel engine too with 148bhp and 173bhp and promising low Co2 emmissions and meet Euro 6 regulations. A low emmissions 2.0 litre petrol engine is also being offered but probably not in Ireland.

The structure is also 30% stiffer than that of the old model meaning handling will be even sharper than before. Will available as a saloon and estate, the hatchback has been dropped. The interior is a huge step on previous models which was always it's weak point.

    There's a 2.5 petrol too, I think.
Looks great though, I love driving my mam's 09 version, I'd say this'll be lovely too.

Yeah, only 1.3 tonnes in the 2l petrol version.

Looks brilliant. The front grill reminds me of a Merc, and the lights are BMW-esque. The rear lights have the same kind of proportions and styling at the last Accord. Logo on the wheel is too big.

Bazz, any word of the 6 using the SkyActive system??

Word on the street is there WILL be an MPS in this. If Ireland gets it at all, it will probably be a diesel version

It'll have it, there's a short write up on the 6 here.

Thanks Cian! No mention of MPS though. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't bother but if anything, it will probably have the 2.5 SkyActiv with a turbo :D

OK, I'll put my hand up and say I'm a Euro car fan first off, I do like the looks of the new 6, I even think there's a hint of the old Xedos 9 in the rump and I love the way Mazda do wheelarches. That top half of the dash looks a bit cheap and shiny though.

Are there pictures of the paddy spec, both exterior and interior. Looks nice but that has to the very top spec in pictures above.

Wouldn't be a fan of the new shape but maybe it's just the particular photos, reminds me bit of a Hyundai Coupe

The word is that the SkyActiv diesels will have a Co2 figure of around 105g/km. They will also have a very low compression rate.

Looks like a lancer at front and i40 at the back I think not too mad on it myself!

Both petrol and diesel have a compression ratio of 14:1, which is extremely high for a petrol engine and very low for a diesel. It will be interesting to see how they deal with potential knocking in the petrol engines, because there is the risk of that with such a high compression ratio.

The interior is as noted a massive step forward from the current car. It should be excellent to drive as well considering how light it will be. I have to say I admire Mazda for their obsession with making cars light. I just hope that the new generation engines won't turn out to be as disasterous as their in house diesels have been for reliability in the long run - reliability is or at least should be one of the main reasons to buy a Mazda after all (although the 2.2 is not supposed to have the problems the 2.0 model has).

Looks excellent, and given that the current model is the best handling car in its class, this should even be better. If Mazda Ireland manage to get the pricing and availability right, then boards folk might actually start suggesting "Why not try the Skoda Superb, or maybe the Mazda 6..." which would be refreshing!

The more I look at it the more it looks like a kia. Its a shame cars are becoming more and more generic. It looks good but not something I personally would go out and buy. Also its good they are reducing the weight as has been said it was getting out of hand.

The biggest challenge around pricing will be the fact that it is one of the very few cars that are still made in Japan meaning the exchange rate/import duty will not be in the customer's favour.

Really like the design, to my eye I'm seeing hints of the Volvo S60 in the front bumper design.

I agree with "Renofan" it looks like a Kia to me, especially from the front but to me that's not a bad thing . I owned a Mazda 323, and 626 and I am a big fan of them so if a few bob came my way this car would be on my list .
