Google Chrome and downloads

When I click on a file link in an internet browser, I want to be always given the option to 'Open' or 'Save'.

I have a problem with Google Chrome in that it insists on always opening PDF files which I might sometimes wish to 'Save' and when I click on a CSV file, I want to 'Open' it with Excel so that I can copy & paste the data into an existing spreadsheet but there is no option to 'Open' the file.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

No option to open the file, just to 'save link as...' or open in another window/tab all of which bring up the 'Save As' window.

You're going to have to save it locally unless there's a plugin for chrome for the application you're trying to open the file in. Have you checked the web store for a plugin

My main issue is with CSV files, there appears to be no such thing as an MS Office plugin for Chrome but as CSV files are associated with Excel, all I want Chrome to do is 'Open' the file and Windows will take care of the rest.

    Think I'll stay with Firefox.

Chrome has a awful built in download manager, one of the reasons I stopped using it. There may be a plugin to fix it but Firefox deffo has (or had) the better download management plugins
