Disposal of flue

I have a redundant boiler house now we have changed to gas. There is a 10' length of cement pipe that went up into the chimney now leaning freely against a wall. This contains some asbestos.

Is this still used? Any point offering it on 'freetrade'? Will it be taken in at council dump? (but too big for me to take there in small car ) Would a builder deal with it if he has job of removing chimney and reroofing old boilerhouse. I have had a quote from professional asbestos removal firm but think it way too high.

    TIA
    Anne

Dont touch the asbestos , you need an asbestos removal firm to remove it , it is illegal to dispose of this aby other way.

It will depend on the type of the asbestos contained within the flue but most are not that dangerous. If it can be removed in tact, without breaking it, it is safe to handle with certain precautions, such as ensuring the area is well ventilated, wear breathing mask suitable for microscopic dust particles and gloves.
Ring your local dump and ask if they can take waste of this nature. Most can handle this.

If it is damaged, then you may have to do as sullz says and consult with a specialist asbestos removal contractor.

Yes it is intact. I was told not the hazardous type as cement bound. So no one wants it, thanks, will contact County Council and dump. I just thought quote from professionals extravagant.

I forgot to mention that it also needs to be bagged or wrapped and marked as hazardous waste/asbestos.

I have a few sheets of corrugated asbestos sheeting (same material as your flue pipe) that I ended up leaving at the end of the garden where they are now covered with hedge. I couldn't find any way of disposing of it for a reasonable cost. I'd be interested if you find a place that takes your flue.

I feel I am now an expert on the subject. Local Council Dumps in this country will not take it. There are two places that accept waste from others and export same. They will accept waste from certified/registered people only. I have found a firm that specialises in smaller jobs and have a more reasonable quote.
