I had a root canal done 45 years ago and it was no problem at all. Because the tooth was broken I got a crown as well. However I never liked the crown and had it redone a few times over the years, usually by my mate after we had a few drinks (I'm a dentist too).
Finally I went to a specialist and got it done right. Now I'm happy with it. :D

You should really go and get the work you need done.

What will happen with this thread is you will hear horror stories which are the exception not the rule and it in turn will be result in you essentially spamming the various threads about dying during extractions etc.

    Please use this thread
