Hi,I dropped my cv into a gala shop yesterday and later that evening I got a call from the store manager saying that they are not hiring at the moment and wanted to know if it was ok to hold onto my cv in case a position does come up. Is it a good sign that he called me? Surely he gets so many cvs each day that he wouldn't bother calling them all to say the same thing to them, what do you think?

It's not a bad sign, but don't read too much in to it.

He's a small business owner. If he ignored your cv you might be inclined to badmouth the business owner as someone who ignored you. It's just good PR that he gave you a call to tell you he wasn't hiring.

I suppose it wouldn't be any harm for you to call into him again in a few weeks and see if he's hiring, or keep an ear out to hear if he's hiring again. In the meantime, keep looking!
