Hi,I dropped my cv into a gala shop yesterday and later that evening I got a call from the store manager saying that they are not hiring at the moment and wanted to know if it was ok to hold onto my cv in case a position does come up. Is it a good sign that he called me? Surely he gets so many cvs each day that he wouldn't…

It's not a bad sign, but don't read too much in to it.

He's a small business owner. If he ignored your cv you might be inclined to badmouth the business owner as someone who ignored you. It's just good PR that he gave you a call to tell you he wasn't hiring.

I suppose it wouldn't be any harm for you to call into him again in a few weeks and see if he's hiring, or keep an ear out to hear if he's hiring again. In the meantime, keep looking!
